Getting a HAZMAT endorsement

• 1). Apply for a criminal background check with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Apply for the background check at https://hazprints.tsa.dhs.gov, or call (877) 429-7746. After applying, you will be informed of fingerprint sites.
  
  
• 2). At the fingerprint site, review and sign your application, submit your fingerprints and pay the applicable fees.
  
  
• 3). The TSA will mail you a letter of approval. If you do not hear from this office after 30 days, call (877) 429-7746.
  
  
• 4). Take your letter of approval and all other required information to your local DMV. Make sure to check with your individual DMV before heading out, as specific requirements may vary from state to state.
  
  
• 5). At the DMV, fill out any required applications, perform any required tests, pay any applicable fees and present all required documents.
