How to Store Pool Chemicals
- 1). Read the product label or material safety data sheet (MSDS) for each chemical. This will help you know how to safely transport, use and store specific chemicals. Also, know what to do in case of any spill.
- 2). Store the chemicals in a dry and cool place, such as a storage shed. Make sure that the chemicals are never stored in an area when direct sunlight reaches the chemicals. Check your storage shed to make sure you have appropriate storage space, such as shelving or a metal cabinet, and make sure the area can be well-ventilated.
- 3). Keep all chemicals stored in their original containers. Store any liquids below powders when using shelves in your storage. Also, make sure there is no way the water can come into contact with the pool chemicals.
- 4). Store any acids or oxidizers on separate shelves so that the two chemicals can't come in contact with each other. If the oxidizers come in contact with acids, chlorine gas can be form and become a hazard for your shed.
- 5). Keep all gasoline, fertilizers, paint, pesticides and any flammable material away from your pool chemicals within a storage shed. Also, after you've stored your pool chemicals safely, make sure the storage door is securely shut and locked to keep children or animals from getting in.
