Pharmaceutical science concerns itself with the design, discovery and use of drugs and medications. Professionals in this field research the positive and harmful side effects of drugs and target opportunities for drug development. Before a new drug is available for consumers, pharmaceutical scientists must determine how delivery, dosage and properties affect a drug's performance and usefulness. Career opportunities are available in the pharmaceutical industry, research laboratories and government agencies. - Northeastern University offers the only pharmaceutical science program in New England. The School of Pharmacy and Bouve College of Health Science is just one of seven academic colleges at Northeastern University and offers various master's and doctoral degree programs in pharmaceutical science. Pharmaceutical specialties are available in pharmaceutics and drug delivery system, medicinal chemistry, and drug discovery and toxicology. Research is conducted in neuropharmacology, nanomedicine, translation imaging and bioanalytical chemistry.
