The Best Way to Clean Horizontal Blinds

    Dry Dusting

    • For all types of blinds, it is important to dry dust to remove loose debris and dust. Use a plain cotton glove or a terry cloth rag to wipe the blinds clean. Another option is to use a pair of clean, dry socks on the hands, suggests the Good Housekeeping website.

    Wet Cleaning

    • A wet cleaning method is the best way to get metal or vinyl blinds clean. Fill a bucket with warm water and few drops of dishwashing detergent. Use a fresh sponge to wipe down the front and back of the blind. Dry with a clean towel. To avoid wetting the floor, place a towel under the blinds while cleaning.

    Furniture Polish

    • Using a standard furniture polish is the best way to clean wooden blinds. Apply the furniture polish directly to a terry cloth cleaning rag or a clean, cotton glove and wipe down the front and back of the blinds. Another option is to use a small amount of tap water. If using a wet cleaning method, be sure to buff blinds dry to avoid damaging the wood.

    Vacuum

    • A vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool is the best equipment for cleaning fabric blinds. Attach the crevice or brush tool and vacuum any dirt and debris off of the blinds. The Made Man magazine website also recommends using the vacuum to remove dust from metal blinds.
