- 1). Scrub the outside of the ham to remove any mold. Mold is common on country hams and is completely harmless.
- 2). Place the ham in the pot and cover with fresh cold water.
- 3). Soak the ham for 24 to 48 hours, changing the water periodically. The more you change the water, the more salt will be drawn from the ham. As the salt content of the water increases, it balances with the ham and will stop drawing the salt.
