    • The 82-acre Lakedale Resort at Three Lakes is a 10-minute drive from Roche Harbor, on the east side of the island. It is within five minutes of three lakes and less than 10 minutes from Rocky Bay, where killer whales, also called orcas, can be spotted. The resort has a restaurant, meeting space overlooking Lake Neva, kayak rentals and picnic areas with charcoal grills. Guest cabins have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, living rooms and fully equipped kitchens. Rates ranged from $250 to $450 a night in September 2010. Rooms at the resort's lodge started at $180. Tent and RV camping also are available.

    Lonesome Cove Resort

    • Lonesome Cove Resort is less than 10 minutes from Roche Harbor.The 75-acre resort, open since the late 1940s, has seven secluded cabins with private fishing piers, fully equipped kitchens, living rooms, patios and cable TV. Docks on the resort's property handle vessels up to 28 feet long. Orcas can sometimes be spotted from the cabins. Rates ranged from $150 to $165 a night in September 2010.

    • Snug Harbor Marina Resort is on the western shore of San Juan Island, a 15-minute drive from Roche Harbor. The resort has a marina on Mitchell Bay with 50 boat slips. It also offers guided kayak tours. The waterfront cabins have queen beds, fully equipped kitchens, living rooms, decks and picnic tables. In 2010, rates ranged from $129 to $159 in winter to $179 to $239 a night in summer.
