Bournemouth Airport

The Bournemouth airport began operations as a RAF Hurn in the year 1941. This airport which was previously called the Hurn International Airport is now owned and operated by the Manchester Airports Group. In 2008, the Daily Telegraph declared Bournemouth airport as the best in the United Kingdom and the third best in the world.  The airport has one main terminal and serves about 5 million passengers every year. Over 15 airlines visit the airport, the major ones being Ryanair and Thomson Airways. The airport serves the south coast of England and several other European destinations. Below are a few guidelines that will help you understand the airport better.

Facilities

The main terminal is well equipped with ATM machines, money exchange kiosks, restrooms and infant rooms. A play area for children up to the age 5 years is also present in the airport. The airport has all key facilities for disabled travellers and an experienced first aider is always on duty.  Passengers can avail a wide range of fashion accessories, sunglasses, travel kits and a wide range of tobacco and alcohol for duty free prices at the airport. The airport has three car parks for both long term and short term parking. The airport is Wi Fi enabled and is free for the first 60 minutes.

Transport

The airport is only a few minutes away from the centre of the Bournemouth town. It is well connected by the road system and taxis are a comfortable and easy way to get to the town from the airport. Taxis can be availed directly outside the airport terminal building. Buses, coaches and trains run frequently between the airport and Bournemouth Square and the Bournemouth Interchange.

Accommodation

If you travelling during the late hours of the night or taking an early flight, staying at a hotel close to the airport is advisable. There are hotels at different price ranges close to the Bournemouth airport. Two star hotels near the airport are the Avon Causeway Hotel and The Heronshaw House.

Food and Dining

The airport does not have a 24 hour refreshment stall. However there are some good eat outs like O'Briens Sandwich Bar, Bar de Voyages and The Food Village. Small cafes offer light snacks and coffee for quick refuelling. A WHSmith store is also found within the airport premises.
