How to Make a Hanging Inverted Planter
- 1). Drill a 2-inch hole in the center of the bottom of a large, decorative, ceramic vase. Use a ceramic drill bit. You can use a small vase, but a large vase gives you more room for the plants to grow.
- 2). Drill one 1/4-inch hole 2 inches below the top rim of the vase using a ceramic drill bit. Drill another 1/4-inch hole directly opposite the first.
- 3). Drill a 2-inch diameter hole in the center of one side of the vase. Drill a 2-inch diameter hole 3 to 4 inches above the center hole, on another side of the vase. Drill a 2-inch diameter hole 3 to 4 inches below the center hole on another side of the vase. Drill another 2-inch diameter hole 3-inches below the top rim on the fourth side of the vase. If your vase is circular, position the holes so they are staggered around the vase.
- 4). Cut one 30-inch length of 22-gauge craft wire. Insert one end of the wire through one of the 1/4-inch holes in the top of the vase. Pull the wire through the hole 4 inches, from the outside to the inside. Bend the end of the wire up. Twist the end of the wire around itself at the top of the vase.
- 5). Insert the other end of the wire through the opposite 1/4-inch hole at the top of the vase. Pull the wire through the hole 4 inches and twist it around itself. The wire is the hanger for your inverted planter. Hang the planter from a hook before planting.
