What Is a Sauna Like?

    Identification

    • Saunas are enclosed spaces, wooden huts or rooms in which a fire, burning rocks, or vents are used to create hot temperatures and steam.

    Temperature

    • Temperatures in saunas are extremely hot. In a dry sauna, the temperature can reach up to 250 degrees F.

    Function

    • Wet saunas, also called steam rooms, have clouds of steam that fill the entire room, giving a stronger impression of heat despite having cooler temperatures than dry saunas.

    Significance

    • Sweating, a primary reason for using a sauna, opens pores, which eliminates dirty and wasteful germs/bacteria from the skin. The heat stimulates the immune system and makes one feel refreshed.

    Benefits

    • Rejuvenating muscles and your skin are two examples of how saunas improve physical health.
