How to Convert M4A to Audio
- 1). Make sure the latest versions of iTunes and QuickTime are installed. If not, download them at the Apple website.
- 2). Add the M4A file to your iTunes music playlist one of two ways. Click "File" under the file menu and look for "Import" or "Add To Library," depending on which version of iTunes you use. Alternately, if the M4A sits on the desktop or a convenient location on your hard drive, drag and drop it on the iTunes music playlist and it will import automatically.
- 3). Find "Preferences" under "File" or "iTunes," depending on which iTunes version you use. Click "Preferences," then click the "Advanced" icon. Click the tab marked "Importing." In the dialogue box marked "Import Using," choose either WAV (if you're on a Windows computer) or AIFF (if you're on a Mac) since these are the respective native audio file types. Click "OK" to exit Preferences.
- 4). Click to highlight the M4A file you added earlier. Go to "Advanced" in the File menu of iTunes and select "Convert to AIFF" if you're using a Mac or "Convert to WAV" is you're using a PC. The conversion should begin automatically.
