How to Hook Up an Above Ground Swimming Pool

    • 1). Place the pool filtration system on level ground near the electric source. Not only should the ground be level but it should have good drainage. It is important that the pool pump not be submerged in water.

    • 2). Attach the pool pump to the filter housing. The discharge port on the port gets connected to the inlet on the filter. Make sure the connection points are clean and then apply Teflon tape to the male end of the connectors before tightening them.

    • 3). Connect the first hose from the pool's return to the filter's outlet. The filter outlet is the part of the filtration system where the clean water flows into the pool. If you're using the screw-on type of hose, use the same technique you used when connecting the pump to the filter housing. Clean the connection and apply the Teflon tape before tightening it. If you're using a plastic clamp-on hose, dip the open end of the hose in hot water for three to five seconds. It makes the hose pliable and easier to affix to the outlet and the return.

    • 4). Take the other pool hose and connect it from the skimmer to the inlet on the pool pump. The pump inlet is located right in front of the pump basket. At this point, if there is water in the pool, it will begin to flow into the pump basket.

    • 5). Plug in the pool pump and open the air valve on top of the filter housing. The first time you run the filter, you must allow the trapped air to escape. The air valve gives the air a place to go.

    • 6). Turn on the filter and wait for the water to spray out of the air valve. When the water starts to spray, close the air valve.
