How to Make a Pinup Board for a Bedroom
- 1). Cut batting to fit the front or face of the 2-by-2-foot corkboard using sharp scissors. Apply a thin layer of wood glue over the front of the board. Center the batting over the board and lower it over the glue. Press the batting down firmly so it sticks to the board. Wipe excess glue from the sides of the board with a damp rag.
- 2). Spread decorative fabric face down on your work table. Center the board, batting side down, over the fabric. Form a 45-degree cut over each corner of the fabric to keep it from bunching along the front. Pull the edge of the fabric over the corresponding side of the board and insert a row of evenly spaced staples to secure it in place.
- 3). Form the ribbon lattice over the fabric-covered board. Measure 3 to 4 inches along the sides of the board and mark the spots using lengths of masking tape. Measure and cut 26-inch strips of ribbon in the same or different colors to form the lattice or grid over the face of the board.
- 4). Apply glue or staple one end of each ribbon to the back of the board, directly above the flagged tape marks. Pulling the ribbon taut, extend it over the face of the board to the opposite side and secure it in place to the back of the board. Continue this process until you cover the board in one direction. Repeat the process of attaching parallel lengths of ribbon along the face of the board in the opposite direction to the first, creating a lattice or grid. Remove the masking tape from the edges of the corkboard.
- 5). Cut four lengths of 1-inch decorative trim or lace to attach to the edges of the corkboard. Lay each length directly above the ribbon grid over each edge and secure with glue or insert push pins into the corners.
