How to Convert Tabs to Guitar Chords on a Diagram Generator

    • 1). Use an online search engine to locate a type guitar chord generator, or something similar. There are hundreds of sites available, some of which are subscription and others that you can use free of charge.

    • 2). Visit a variety of sites until you find a suitable one that will allow you to put in the chord and the website give you the answer. There should be a tab on the main page of the website offering a reverse chord look-up.

    • 3). Click on the digital fret board to move the tab into place. To understand tabs, remember that each string stays the same and the number refers to the fret board. If the tab reads vertically 320033, then move the E string to the third fret, the A string to the second fret, skip the next two, and then put the B and E stings on the third fret. If there is an X, this string is muted, so click above the fret board on that string and an X should appear above it.

    • 4). Once completed, click on the finished button, and the chord name will be shown along with a proper chord diagram.

    • 5). Adjust the tuning or note position as needed until the required chord is found.
