How to Add Algaecide
- 1). Backwash the pool filter. See your pool filter's instructions for how to properly backwash the filter.
- 2). Shock the pool with a 1-pound treatment of Super Shock.
- 3). Calculate the number of gallons of water in the pool. See resources for how to calculate pool's water capacity.
- 4). Measure the treatment algaecide according to pool capacity calculations. Measurement instructions will be found on the algaecide bottle or packaging. Algaecides may differ, so be sure and check and follow the product's instructions carefully.
- 5). Mix the algaecide with water, if required. Some algaecides come in concentrated liquid form and other in powder form. Check the package instructions for how to mix the algaecide.
- 6). Add the mixed or diluted algaecide directly to the pool water, walking around the periphery of the pool and pouring.
- 7). Add pool clarifier if pool water remains cloudy a few hours after initial treatment of algaecide. When adding pool clarifier, follow the directions carefully. A small amount of clarifier is diluted with pool water and dispersed over the surface of the water. Pool clarifier will clump the algae together, allowing the filtering system to catch the algae and debris.
- 8). Repeat this process every day or every other day that the algae problem persists. Algae grows constantly, so be expedient in getting rid of the problem.
