Civil War in Sudan
In Sudan a civil war has been going on for 56 years, and families have become so poor they are selling their own children into slavery.
The question is what if anything can our government do to stop this.
I think the thing that would be the best for our country is to simply stay away.
It's not that I enjoy hearing that people are stooping so low as to sell their own children into slavery, I just don't think we can make any difference.
My first idea is for the U.
S citizen's all to pay taxes to buy the slaves back.
If you think really closely you will understand why this would not work.
Say we buy them back.
What will we do with them after we bring them back to their families.
Their parents would just sell them back, because they would still be starving.
Another idea is to bring them back to America.
They won't know our language, and we will have to support them for years until they get on their feet.
Our government could do that if we were talking 20 people, but we are talking over 20,000 men and women.
It would simply be impractical.
Show Sudan the biggest gun you have, and tell them to stop the Civil War.
One and a half million people have died already in this war.
Do you think they would care if another thousand died.
They have committed themselves to war for 56 years.
If we stopped the civil war their economy would grow and the poor wouldn't need to sell their children into slavery, but no ones hatred would go away.
The second we thought every thing was fine we would leave, and it would just start again.
In summary I feel that there is no answer.
The U.
S.
government could do either of these things, but would it stop the Civil war and slave trade? No! The two ideas I have presented probably would work for now, but would fail in the long run.
