Tips for Renting a Vacation House on Martha"s Vineyard

Martha's Vineyard rentals are available in each town on the Vineyard.
If you would like to be close to the major activities on the island, you can find rentals in Oak Bluffs, Edgartown and Vineyard Haven.
Or, if you prefer more serenity, you may find vacation rentals in West Tisbury, Aquinnah, Menemsha and Chappaquiddick to suit your style.
Martha's Vineyard is larger than many folks realize.
While Oak Bluffs, Vineyard Haven and even Edgartown are easy to get to from the ferry boats, West Tisbury, Chappaquiddick and other areas require a bit more time and effort.
Ferry boats from Woods Hole and Hyannis, MA go to terminals in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven.
So, if you rent a house in these towns you'll be within a few minutes of the house.
Rental homes in Edgartown will be between 10-25 minutes from the ferry terminals.
Vacation rentals in Aquinnah or Tisbury will be 25-45 minutes from the ferry.
Rentals on Chappaquiddick require a short crossing on another ferry to the island of Chappaquiddick.
Vacation rentals on the Vineyard come in all sizes and price ranges.
There are simple cottages with 1 or 2 bedrooms and there are gorgeous estate style rentals with more than 5 bedrooms, pools, tennis courts and more.
Of course recently President Obama has rented a vacation home featuring expansive grounds, abundant privacy and amenities suitable for a President.
When you are searching for a rental, you should keep in mind that there are only a few large supermarkets on the island.
If you plane to eat out frequently or stock up for the week, this may be fine, but if you are expecting to get food a few times you may want to consider how far it will be to the store.
You may also want to consider the proximity of the rental to the main Vineyard attractions.
Most of the activities and attractions are near Oak Bluffs, Edgartown and Vineyard Haven and these 3 towns are within 10-15 minutes of each other.
If you rent a home in Aquinnah, plan on driving 30-50 minutes to get to restaurants and shops in these towns.
Many Martha's Vineyard rentals will not allow dogs.
Of course some do and if you require a home that allows dogs just make sure you verify this condition with the rental agent or owner.
The temperature on the Vineyard becomes cooler at night so most rentals do not have air conditioning and it's generally not required for comfortable sleeping.
However, if you feel you may require air conditioning, be sure to verify that rentals you consider have this feature.
Of course Martha's Vineyard is an island and many vacation rentals are within walking distance to a beach.
While there are many great public beaches on the Vineyard, there are also many excellent private beaches and you can generally have access to these beautiful beaches if your rental home is in the proximity.
Rentals will generally require payment for the full week as well as a security deposit which will be refunded assuming there is no damage at the end of the rental period.
