As you will soon discover when it comes to chicken coop designs you have a number of different options to choose between.
If for example you are someone that is intending only to keep just 3 or 4 chickens then a portable coop may be your perfect choice.
However, if in the future you then decide to increase the size of your flock what options are then available to you.

Movable Coop - This is the smallest design and is simply a 3 sided prism covered with mesh.
Of all the types of coops we discuss in this article not only can you move this around your yard easily but is the simplest too clean as well.
But remember these are designed only for housing a small flock of chickens say 3 to 5.

Medium Size Coop - This is in fact the best option for those who have a reasonable size yard and are looking to own a flock of between 5 to 10 birds.
Also ideal for those who are intending to raise their own chickens as well.
This coop is considerably taller than the first kind and so offers a great deal more space to the chickens kept in it.
Along with a lot more space for them to run around in it these coops allow for several perches to be installed.
You could if you wanted to build this one yourself as normally the design is a simple box one.
