How to Sync Miko to Logic

    • 1). Connect your MiKo to your computer using a MIDI cable and USB MIDI interface. Connect one end of your MIDI cable to the "MIDI Out" jack on the back of your MiKo, and connect the opposing end to the "MIDI In" jack on your interface. Then plug the USB connector on your interface to any available USB port on your computer. The USB port is indicated by the standard USB symbol, resembling a trident or pitchfork with square, circular and triangular points.

    • 2). Open Logic on your computer. Double-click the "HD" or "Hard Drive" icon on your desktop, and select the "Applications" folder, in which you will find your Logic software. Double-click the Logic icon to open the program.

    • 3). Click "Logic Pro" or "Logic Express" (depending on the version you use) on the menu bar at the top of the screen and select "Preferences" from the drop down menu. When the "Preferences" panel appears, click the "Devices" tab, followed by the "Core Audio" tab.

    • 4). Click the box directly beside the "Device" heading and select your MIDI USB interface from the list of input options. Depending on the type of interface you use, Logic may add the interface as an input device automatically.

    • 5). Click the "MIDI" tab at the top of the "Preferences" window and select the "Sync" tab that appears below.

    • 6). Select the "MIDI Clock" option. This will sync your MiKo's keyboard with Logic and confine the transfer of notes to a numeric scale, for smooth transfer and precise timing.

    • 7). Click the red bubble in the upper left corner of the "Preferences" window to close the window and return to your main Logic browser. Your changes will save automatically.

    • 8). Open your "Arrange" window by clicking "Window" on the menu bar at the top of your screen and choosing "Arrange" from the drop down menu. Your "Arrange" window resembles a digital multi-track recorder, with a list of long, horizontal recording spaces known as "tracks," which resemble lines on a sheet of recording paper. The title of each track appears in the left column of the window.

    • 9). Click any instrument track to enable playback for your MiKo. Since the MiKo is a MIDI device (a digital music controller), you must select an instrument track, and not an audio track, to transmit notes. Your instrument tracks are indicated in the left column by the letters "INST." For example, the first instrument track reads "INST 1," and the second reads "INST 2." To select any instrument track, just click the title once with your mouse.

Open your "Mixer" window by clicking "Window" on the menu bar at the top of your screen and choosing "Mixer" from the drop down menu. Your "Mixer" window features the same arrangement as the "Arrange" window, except that the tracks appear in a horizontal row rather than a vertical column, and each track features more editing options.

Click and hold the "Input" box that appears on your instrument track (on the mixer) and select a synthesizer, or digital instrument, from the list. When you choose your instrument, turn on your MiKo and begin playing keys to transmit notes from the keyboard to Logic.
