Simple, messy hairstyles can be easy to do without looking sloppy. Messy hairstyles are great for casual days when there is not much time for styling. If you are in a hurry, skip a shampoo so you are working with "day-old" hair. As long as hair is not too greasy, it will be easier to work with than hair that has just been washed. - For long hair, try a loose bun. According to CareFair.com, the loose bun can be achieved even if you don't have a brush. Tangly or unwashed hair will work fine for this style. Flip your head upside down and pull hair into a high ponytail, secure with an elastic. Wrap the ponytail around the base until hair has formed a bun. Use bobby pins or another elastic to secure the rest of the ponytail to the base of the first elastic. Pull a few hairs down to frame your face.
- For those with thick, curly hair, try a natural style that can be achieved with dry or just-washed hair. When styling dry curls, simply use your fingers or a light mousse to perk up curls, adding volume. For wet curls, sop up excess moisture with a towel. Flip your head over and scrunch your curls to create body. Flip back over and use mousse if desired to add extra body.
- For those with short to mid-length hair, try a messy hairstyle with mousse or gel. While styling with dry or just-washed hair, use a palm-full of a styling aid. Rub your hands together with the mousse or gel and run through the length of your hair. Tousle the hair until the desired level of messiness has been achieved.
