Pagan Tree Crafts
- Put a potted, cut or artificial tree in your home and decorate it to celebrate the next Winter Solstice.
Cut cardboard in the shapes of crescent moons, stars and suns. Spraypaint them silver and gold, punch a hole in the top and hang them with an ornament hook. Cut out paper snowflakes and hang them on your tree.
Wrap wire around crystals, forming a hook at the top, and hang them from branches. Hang other natural objects, such as stones, shells, acorns and pine cones.
String dried flower buds, cinnamon sticks and cranberries. Drape them over the tree. Top your tree with a fairy, animal figure or star. - Decorate an outdoor tree for Beltane in honor of the union of Goddess and God. Because weaving is symbolic of their union, weave flower chains to use as a garland, or braid ribbons to wrap around branches or the trunk.
Gather a handful of herbs in a square of cheesecloth, and tie it at the top with a ribbon. Hang the herbal sachet.
Make decorations that double as offerings to animals and spirits. String popcorn and berries on thread and drape them over branches. Smear peanut butter on pine cones and roll them in bird seed, then suspend them from branches. - Make a tree of remembrance to display in your home in honor of the dead.
Look for fallen branches on your next nature walk. Make sure they're sturdy, and have a lot of sticks branching off.
Remove the bark. Take the stick outdoors. Lay it on a tarp and spray paint it black. Allow it to dry.
Take a clay flower pot. If you like, you can paint it, or you can drape a cloth over it. Plug the hole on the bottom with spackle. Fill the pot with sand.
Place the stick's end into the sand. Tamp down the sand around the stick, or dampen it with water, to help keep the stick standing up straight. Add more sand if necessary.
Make ornaments that remind you of those who have passed on. Get some apple-shaped die cuts (apples are fruit of the dead). Print photos to fit and paste them onto the die cut, then hang them on a branch.
Write the names of ancestors, or little tidbits that you know about them, and hot glue them to the tree.
Hang personal objects of the deceased, such as pieces of jewelry, or poems they wrote. Place heavier items around the base of the tree.
