How to Use a TomTom 740 GPS

    • 1). Hold down the "Power" button on your TomTom 740 GPS to turn the device on. You will see the "TomTom" logo, followed by a screen indicating that the GPS is trying to establish a connection with satellites. Move outdoors to establish this connection as quickly as possible.

    • 2). Tap "Navigate To" from the menu, followed by "Address."

    • 3). Select the option that best represents the information you know about your destination. For example, if you just want directions to a particular city tap "City Center." Select "Street and House Number" to enter a specific address or "Zip Code" to enter a zip code.

    • 4). Use the virtual keyboard to enter the information about your destination. Tap "Done," followed by "No," followed by "Done." The TomTom 740 will display directions to the destination you have entered. Tap "Find Alternate" to view an alternate route to the same location.

    • 5). Tap "Navigate To" again and select "Point of Interest" (if applicable). Select a category for your point of interest and then the name of a business or attraction. This will display directions to a point of interest along your route or near your current location.
