Special Schools for Gifted Students

    Anderson Private School

    • Anderson Private School is located in Fort Worth, Texas, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school focuses on developing gifted, talented and creative students through accelerated academics. Anderson creates a syllabus designed to fit each student, which includes an emphasis in fine arts, foreign language and the study of Greek and Latin. Admission requires a portfolio about the child and an interview with the school's psychologist. As of 2011, tuition for children ages 4 and 5 is $7,674 a year, while grades 1 through 12 costs $12,790 per academic year. Payment plans are available.

    Pine View School

    • Pine View School, in Osprey, Florida, serves gifted students in grades 2 through 12. Students are referred to the school and then must take several tests, provide recommendations and attend interviews to be accepted. Students often take classes that encompass multiple grade levels. Pine View School is a part of Florida's public school system and therefore does not charge tuition.

    Anova School

    • Anova: The Massachusetts School of Science, Creativity and Leadership, in Boston, serves gifted students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Anova divides the year into trimesters, and classes are set up for project-based learning in each subject area. For example, the school will focus on a thematic area and a specific country to teach students about art, cooking, environment, history and politics. Students wishing to attend the school are encouraged to undergo an assessment through either a test or a neuropsychological evaluation. Tuition varies, as Anova strives to bring in donations to cover as many costs as possible.

    The Roeper School

    • The Roeper School, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, serves lower-school students (ages 3 to 11), while the branch in Birmingham, Michigan, serves middle- and upper-school students (grades 6 to 12). Classes are advanced and include core studies as well as music, French, art, dance and computer technology. Physical education also is emphasized at Roeper. For older students, there are opportunities for internships and independent study. Admission requires taking a an IQ test, recommendations, high prior academic performance and an interview at the school. Tuition costs vary, but the average for elementary students is $18,000 per year, middle school is $20,600, and upper school is $22,250 per academic year.
