How to Connect a Linksys Router to a Cable Modem

    • 1). Take an Ethernet cable and plug one end of it into the cable modem. An Ethernet cable looks like an oversized phone cable connector. It will fit into a port on the cable modem that resembles a phone jack. There will only be one port that looks like this on the cable modem.

    • 2). Look at the back of the Linksys router. There are several ports on the back of it that look like oversized phone jacks. Locate the port labeled "WAN" or "Internet." There will only be one port with this label, and the other ports will be numbered.

    • 3). Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Linksys router in the "WAN" or "Internet" port. This connects the Linksys router to the cable modem.
