Aydian Dowling: The Trans Hunk

There are several trans men with successful stories of transition gaining amazing body changes. Aydian Dowling is without a doubt one of them. The hot hunk is on the run to be on a magazine cover and is collecting votes to be the favourite winner. And he was once a woman.

One look is enough to recognise his splendid body (keep looking anyway for eye candy purposes!). 27-year-old Aydian became a favourite for 2015 Men's Health's 'Ultimate Guy Search' and he keeps adding favouritism after several posts of his sexy physic on Tumblr and Twitter.

The possibility fills him with great confidence “It would be so affirming to just know that the man that I set out to be is somebody that people think is a good man,” Dowling says. “To break those stereotypes, but still be a man. Feel pride in masculinity, but not putting down femininity. That would be so important to me.”

Dowling was born and raised in Long Island, New York. As a girl teenager he first identified as a lesbian but it didn't take long for him to realise he didn't feel good about his body. His girlfriend at the time asked him once if he would like to be a boy and that question stuck to his mind. He searched for answers online until he stumbled across a clip from the show Maury. In the clip a man held out a picture of a little girl and stated that she was him before transitioning. It was life-changing for Aydian, “I kind of absorbed everything I could find on the Internet, chatrooms, forums, videos,” he confesses.

He now lives in Eugene, Oregon, where he’s been married for three years and keeps a Youtube Channel where he documents the journey of transitioning for the past five years.

He also runs Point 5cc, a transgender clothing company that provides binders for FTM (female-to-male) individuals. The company also helps sponsor gender confirmation surgeries. As if it wasn't enough he also has another Youtube Channel, BeefHeads Fitness, aimed at trans people with advice on how to get fit and healthy.

He has a clear passion for sports and quickly got back into the gym after deciding on the transition so he could build a masculine body and focus on bulging biceps and washboard abs. The results are there. Dowling appeared in the cover for FTM Magazine, a publication for the trans community, with a recreation of Adam Lavine's (Maroon 5's singer) nude photo, which was a boost in social media. That gave him the confidence to enter Men’s Health’s 'Ultimate Guy Search'.

The odds are with him. With more than 14,000 votes he has slightly less then double what the guy in second place has. Not to mention the support of the LGBT community. “I’m feeling proud of our community coming together,” he states. “This was just another competition, but our community said, ‘Hey, we’re taking this thing and we’re making it ours. We’re running with it. We’re gonna take it and turn it into something, because we want it to be something.’ I’m completely in awe and humbled by how much love and support I’ve gotten.”

Aydian Dowling keeps a positive attitude and enjoys the ride not hiding his pride in representing trans people, “It’s been crazy and amazing. I definitely was not expecting all the support, but I’m so happy and proud of the community for using its loud voice and realizing that we really could do it. We’re banding together and this is us. We exist and we should be represented in some way in mainstream.”
