Signs & Symptoms of Genital Psoriasis

    Signs

    • Genital psoriasis is characterized by a red patch or rash on the skin in the groin area. It is called inverse psoriasis because, unlike traditional psoriasis, the rash is not flaky.

    Problems

    • Due to the sensitivity of the affected area, genital psoriasis is likely to be the most bothersome variation of the condition. Expect the area to be very itchy and perhaps sore as well.

    Anatomy

    • Basic anatomy dictates that men tend to acquire genital psoriasis at a higher rate than women. The penis and scrotum appear to be especially susceptible to these skin lesions.

    Diagnosis

    • To confirm you have genital psoriasis, your doctor might examine the rest of your body for disease involvement in areas like knees and elbows, or pitted fingernails, which is evidence psoriasis is present.

    Warning

    • If you find unexplained lesions, rashes, or bumps in your groin area, see a doctor to confirm whether it might be genital psoriasis. Treatments are available.
