Then you have club disc jockeys, who play recorded music in bars, discos, and night clubs.
You also have specialty hip hop DJs who use turntables to play that kind of music.

Some of the basic types of equipment which are needed by any kind of Disc Jockey include
- Recorded sounds in the DJ's preferred medium such as vinyl records, compact discs, MP3 files or CD ROM.
- Digital audio or sounds have to be mixed with MIDI tracks for which a multiple sequencer is required by the DJ.
- An electronic audio mixer which goes by the name of DJ mixer is required.
This DJ mixer is usually equipped with a device called the "crossfader".
This device is required for the smooth movement from one track to another using some playback devices. - A good set of headphones so that the DJ can listens to one track while another one is being played to the audience.
- A set of two devices in order to play the recordings of sound or if the playback is digital then only one device is required.
These devices are required to alternate back and forth between tracks in order to create a continuous playing of music. - A sound system is also required for the purpose of amplification or broadcasting of the recordings.
This usually consists of a PA system or a portable audio sound system. - Electronic defects units to add special sounds to the sound recordings (octave, reverb, delay, chorus, equalizer)
- A special device known as a DJ hardware controller which can beautifully manipulate digital music files on a computer.
- Sequencers, samplers, drum machines and electronic keyboards.
- "Multi stylus head shells" which help the DJ play different styles of the groove.
