My Garmin Nuvi 265WT Won't Stay on When Unplugged

    • 1). Check to see that your Garmin Nuvi 265WT is connected to your vehicle properly. The mini-USB connector on the power cord should be plugged into the device, while the larger end connects to the power outlet inside your motor vehicle. Push each end in firmly to connect.

    • 2). Turn on your motor vehicle. Allow the Garmin Nuvi 265WT to fully charge before you turn off your vehicle and remove it. It may not stay on because it needs to fully charge.

    • 3). Try charging your Garmin Nuvi 265WT using your computer. Connect the device to your computer using the USB cable that came with it. The mini-USB cable connects to the Nuvi. Keep it plugged into your computer until it is fully charged.

    • 4). Turn down the backlight on your Garmin Nuvi 265WT. This light uses unnecessary energy and may be causing your device to lose a charge quickly. To turn down the backlight, touch the "Tools" option and then "Settings." Touch "Display" and "Brightness" to turn it down.

    • 5). Regulate the temperature of your Garmin Nuvi 265WT. If the temperature is below freezing or above 113 degrees Fahrenheit, your device will likely not stay on.
