    • Ford debuted the Mustang in 1964 and the name has become synonymous with American classic muscle cars. The 1998 Ford Mustang came in three different versions: the standard, GT and Cobra. Each version was available as a two-door coupe or convertible. Upon their release, the convertibles retailed for between $20,000 and $28,000, while the coupes retailed for between $16,000 and $25,000.

    Measurements

    • All versions of the 1998 Mustang are 181.5 inches long and 71.8 inches wide. The Cobra convertible is 53.3 inches tall, the regular and Cobra coupe is 53.2 inches tall. All other versions are 53.4 inches tall, and they all have a wheelbase of 101.3 inches. The Cobra turning diameter is 40.8 feet while the turning diameter for other versions is 38.3 feet.

    Weight

    • The regular coupe weighs 3,065 pounds, while the regular convertible weighs 3,210 pounds. The GT coupe weighs 3,227 pounds and the GT convertible weighs 3,400 pounds. The Cobra coupe weighs 3,364 pounds and the Cobra convertible weighs 3,506 pounds.

    Space

    • All editions of the 1998 Mustang seat up to four people. Convertible headroom is 38.1 inches in the front seat and 35.7 inches in the back seat. Coupe headroom is 38.2 inches in the front seat and 35.9 inches in the back seat. Legroom for all versions is 30.3 inches in the back seat. Front seat legroom is 42.6 inches for the regular versions and 41.9 inches for the GT and Cobra versions. Convertible shoulder room is 53.6 inches in the front and 41.2 inches in the back. Coupe shoulder room is 53.6 inches in the front and 52.1 inches in the back.

    Power

    • The regular versions have a 3.8-liter V6 engine and 150 horsepower, while the GT versions have a 4.6-liter V8 engine and 225 horsepower. The Cobra versions have a 4.6-liter V8 engine with 305 horsepower. All versions came standard with a five-speed manual overdrive transmission. All but the Cobra versions had the option of getting a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission instead. For the regular versions, torque is 215 ft.-lbs. at 2,750 rpm. The GT versions produce 286 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3,500 rpm. The Cobra versions get 300 ft.-lbs. of torque at 4,800 rpm.
