Ariens Snow Blower Pull Cord Repair
- 1). Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug by pulling on the rubber boot that covers the tip of the spark plug.
- 2). Loosen the three bolts that secure the starter shroud to the engine. Pull the starter shroud off the engine, and place it upside-down on a work table.
- 3). Hold the starter shroud with one hand, and turn the pulley in the center of the shroud counterclockwise until it stops turning. Clamp the pulley in place using a pair of wide-jaw vise grip pliers.
- 4). Grab the knot in the knothole near the center of the pulley with a pair of needle-nose pliers, and pull out the broken section of cord.
- 5). Insert the end of the new cord into the hole in the outside of the starter shroud. Guide the end of the cord into the pulley toward the knothole. When the cord appears in the knothole, grasp it with the needle-nose pliers and pull out about a foot of slack.
- 6). Tie a knot in the end of the cord. Singe the remaining end of the cord with a lighter or match to prevent fraying.
- 7). Pull on the cord from outside the starter shroud until the knot seats firmly in the knothole. Release the wide-jaw vise grips and allow the cord to recoil around the pulley.
- 8). Replace the starter shroud onto the engine. Tighten the three bolts, securing the shroud in place.
- 9). Reconnect the spark plug wire onto the spark plug.
