How Do I Build a House Out of Stone Concrete?

    • 1). Before any home can be built, land must be purchased that is zoned for the type of construction you are planning. Check with your local Zoning Commission to find out the laws particular to your area.

    • 2). Find a good concrete house plan that fits your needs and property. Notice whether your design uses poured concrete, bricks, or ICF. There are different costs and properties related to all of these types so make sure you know what you're getting. Check to make sure the plans are compliant with your local building codes.

    • 3). Contact a concrete contractor. Go over your plans, and get a bid on the expected budget. Don't be afraid to shop around, so you get the best contractor, for the best price in your area. Concrete houses require different skills than wood houses -- so make sure you get one who's experienced.

    • 4). If you will be using ICF, learn about the manufacturer in your area. If they are far away, there may be high transportation costs. Ask if they have a technical support office, and if they offer a warranty.

    • 5). Find a heating and air conditioning contractor who is experienced with concrete homes. They have different energy requirements than wood homes.
