• 2). Make a list of the events as they happened. This will help ensure you don't forget important details when you file your complaint.
  
  
• 3). Make a list of any evidence -- pictures, videos, witness names, security cameras and other pertinent information.
  
  

File Your Complaint

• 1). Go to any Milwaukee Police Department district station and ask to speak to a supervisor.
  
  
• 2). Call the Professional Performance Division (414-935-7942).
  
  
• 3). Call the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission and ask for a citizen complaint form. Forms are also available on the commission's website (city.milwaukee.gov/fpc/Complaints; 414-286-5000).
  
  

What Happens Next

• 1). Write out the complaint and mail it to the Milwaukee Police Department. Most of the time, a law enforcement official will write out the complaint, and you'll receive a copy to review and sign. If you have a preference, say so.
  
  
• 2). Be ready to assist the Milwaukee Police Department, which will investigate your complaint. The time frame will vary based on the nature of the incident.
  
  
• 3). Accept or appeal to the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission the decision of the Milwaukee Police Department when the investigation is complete. If you disagree with the outcome, you have the right to appeal.
