How to Fix the Internet Explorer Browser

    Resetting Internet Explorer

    • 1). Click the "Tools" menu and click "Internet Options" to launch the browser options dialog box. Click the "Advanced" tab and click the "Reset" button.

    • 2). Select the "Delete Personal Settings" check box if you want to remove browsing history, search providers, accelerators, home pages, and InPrivate Filtering data.

    • 3). Click the "Reset" button again in the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" dialog box. Internet Explorer will apply the default settings. When the process completes, click "Close" and click "OK." Close and relaunch Internet Explorer.

    Disabling Damaged Internet Explorer Add-Ons

    • 1). Click the "Tools" menu located on the top of your browser window and click "Manage Add-Ons" to launch the add-on management box. You should see a list of add-ons, such as media players and toolbars.

    • 2). Scroll through the list of add-ons and click the one you want to remove. Click "Remove" or "Disable."

    • 3). Close and relaunch your Web browser to complete the process.

    Uninstall and Reinstall Internet Explorer

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu and click the "Control Panel." Click "Uninstall a Program" and click "View Installed Updates." If you are using Windows XP, double-click "Add or Remove Programs" to launch the Programs window. Click "Show Updates."

    • 2). Select "Internet Explorer" and click "Remove/Uninstall" to remove the browser. When the uninstallation process is complete, restart your computer.

    • 3). Go to the Internet Explorer download page and click the "Download" link (see Resources). Select your operating system and country. When prompted, click "Run" to launch the IE installation wizard. Follow the guided prompts to complete the IE installation.
