- 1). Look on any correspondences or tax returns you have received from the Australian Taxation Office. These documents will have your personal tax file number printed near the top of the page. Your income tax notice of assessment will also have your tax file number on it.
- 2). Look on check stubs or employment payment summaries from your employer. Your tax file number is needed when you apply for a job, therefore your employer will be able to give you the number once you provide the necessary identification.
- 3). Contact the Australian Taxation Office by calling 13 28 61 during business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. You will be asked for personal information to prove your identity.
