How to Make Homemade Baby Announcements

    • 1). Write down the information you want to include in the announcement so you know what you'll need to work with. Common information includes the baby's full name, date and time of birth, weight and length. The baby's photo usually accompanies the information. Also, consider other text, such as "celebrating our new addition" and the parents' names.

    • 2). Consider an announcement theme. It can be as simple as a color scheme or a visual scheme carried over from the new baby's nursery, perhaps focusing on a favorite baby toy.

    • 3). Decide on graphic elements suitable for your theme, such as colored patterns or a background image representing your theme. Consider design elements, such as real ribbons attached to your announcement, or special mementos, such as thin photo frames in which you can place your baby's photo and fit into the announcement envelopes.

    • 4). Decide on the paper and envelopes you want to work with, again attaching them to your theme.

    • 5). Lay your information and graphic elements down on your paper. Start with a sketch on plain paper or on your computer using software that will help you manipulate images and text boxes. Move your design components around until you're happy with their placement. Don't ignore the design potential you can apply to your envelopes, including stickers, stamps and mailing labels.

    • 6). Print a test announcement on plain paper or make a test announcement by hand so you can make sure you're happy with the final product.

    • 7). Put together your announcements according to your final design.
