How to Connect Surround Sound to a TV Audio Receiver
- 1). Set up the speakers in the room, placing the two front channel speakers to the left and right of the TV, with the center channel above or below the TV. The rear channel speakers should be placed behind the main seating area at a 45-degree angle toward the viewers' backs. A subwoofer can be set on the floor in a place where it won't get in the way.
- 2). Cut speaker wires long enough to connect each speaker to the receiver, then remove 1/2-inch of insulation from both ends of the wires with the wire stripper.
- 3). Lift the color-coded clips on the back of each speaker to expose two holes for inserting the wires. The red wire connects to the right terminal, and the other wire connects to the left. For easy reference, always connect the red wire to the red terminal.
- 4). Hook up the other end of each wire to the labeled terminals for each speaker on the back of the receiver. For example, connect the left, center and right front speakers to the LF, C and RF terminals on the receiver, respectively. Connecting speakers to the correct receiver terminals is important for accurate reproduction of the surround sound.
- 5). Connect a video cable from the receiver's video out-jack to the video in-jack on the back panel of the television.
- 6). Hook up other audio-video components to the input jacks labeled on the back of the receiver for each component, matching the colors on the connector cables to the colors on the jacks.
- 7). Connect all the electrical cords to a surge protector, which can then be plugged into a wall outlet.
