How to Repair a Latch on a Screen Door

    • 1). Observe the screen door latch as you open the door. If the latch's deadbolt is hitting the strike plate, readjust the strike plate. If the handle is loose, realign and tighten the screws.

    • 2). Loosen the screws holding the handle to the screen door with a screwdriver until you can move the handle. Loosen the screws holding the strike plate to the door frame.

    • 3). Move the door latch so that the holes in the latch line up with the holes the screws are inserted in. Re-tighten the screws as tight as they will go.

    • 4). Move the strike plate up or down, depending on where the dead bolt is hitting. If the dead bolt is hitting the top of the strike plate, move the plate up slightly. If the dead bolt is hitting the bottom of the strike plate, move it down slightly. Re-tighten the screws to secure the strike plate to the door frame.
