How to Make Your Own Gift Basket Ideas

    • 1). Fill your basket up to the edge with brown packing paper. Crinkle it up to create height. Other filler can be used in place of packing paper, such as white computer paper or shredded colored paper, but the brown packing paper seems to be the easiest to use and less messy than shredded paper.

    • 2). Arrange your items from back to front with the tallest items in the back and the shortest in the front. Secure the items with clear tape if you are worried about any of them falling out. Seal the basket by using clear plastic bags and tying the top with a bow, or simply tie a small bow around the lip of the basket. This is a much easier (and quieter) way to give the gift.

    • 3). For ideas on what to put in the basket, think of the recipient. If it is a woman, think of her favorite items. She might like a basket of home spa gifts like lotions and bath oils, or a basket of candles to help to decorate her house; a plate to hold the candle and a lighter would make a nice addition to the basket. Add some homemade goodies, especially if you are a good cook.

For a man, a basket of sports magazines might be a good gift if he's a sports lover; include some cookies or muffins as well. For a fisherman, a basket of lures and tackle would be much appreciated.

If someone is sick, a great idea is to create a basket of home remedies. If he has the flu, perhaps a basket with cough drops, anti-nausea medicine, ibuprofen, tissues and a thermometer---and don't forget a can of soup for him to heat.

For a child, a good gift might be similar to an Easter basket, with crayons and an activity book along with candy and stuffed animals. To create a fun gift for a child, be sure to provide lots of variety.
