- 1). Shut off the water supply in your home. Turn off the main electrical switch so that there's no danger when you're working in your basement.
- 2). Use a large flashlight or several flashlights to illuminate your work. Suck up the excess water with a wet-dry shop vacuum. Target the area where the leak originates as well as the areas where it has spread.
- 3). Shut all the windows in your basement. Drill a 1-inch hole into the base of each wall with a concrete drill. The holes will help you suck out moisture that the concrete walls have absorbed.
- 4). Run a dehumidifer in your basement for at least two days. This will absorb all the moisture locked into the walls and floors, and will get rid of the damp feeling in the basement.
