How to Assemble a Black Chimney Stove Pipe
- 1). Lay out all pieces of the chimney. Make sure each piece fits in the designated space by measuring the distances with a tape measure. If the pipe does not fit, return to the store or manufacturer to obtain the correct length of pipe section. Or, trim the section to the correct length using tin shears.
- 2). Fit the first piece of stove pipe to the collar on the wood stove. This is the round section of pipe at the back of the stove. Fit the first section of pipe over this collar with the female end facing the back of the stove. Note that if you stove collar is larger than or bigger than you stove pipe, an adapter must be used here. It fits over the stove pipe in the same way.
- 3). Connect and secure the pipe to the stove by screwing in the connectors through the holes in the side of the pipe. Use a screwdriver or wrench, depending on your type of pipe. Tighten the screw by hand without applying pressure to the pipe. This could dent or bend the pipe.
- 4). Attach the next section of pipe. It will either be a straight piece or a joint. Either way, the section fits over the preceding section's male end, which is smaller in diameter than the female end. Push the pipe all the way onto the preceding pipe and secure it with connectors and a screwdriver or wrench.
- 5). Continue to assemble the sections and joints. The last section of pipe is the exterior vent cap. This fits over the preceding section and is attached with connectors.
