Effective Tips to Stop Your Dog From Barking in The Yard

One of the commonest complaints about neighbours to the authorities is about dog barking and if the problem isn't fixed soon they have the power to make you get rid of your dog.
It's not worth the risk of this and also falling out with your neighbours at the same time.
There are many ways you can try and fix this problem but the best and cheapest way is through reinforcing good behaviour and distraction techniques.
Every time your dog starts barking in your back yard you need to startle them and at the same time cause a distraction to get them to take their mind of what they were barking at.
What I have done in the past that worked for me and my dog was to bang two dustbin lids together when he was barking.
This startled him and took his mind off what he was barking at.
I had to continually do this for three days until he realised that every time he barked something unpleasant happened.
Of course you don't have to use dustbin lids as any loud noise will do.
After a while your dog will realise that there is too much downside in barking and not bother with it anymore.
Another thing to do is to walk around your yard when the dog is barking a quite often it isn't another dog barking that sets them off but something in the yard they don't like the look of.
It could be washing moving in the wind or seeing a reflection of themselves in a greenhouse.
If you can remove the distraction or show your dog there is nothing to be alarmed about you will be on your way to fixing the problem.
If you have tried these methods then there are other things you can try.
Electric collars are becoming popular now and will send a current of electricity through the dog in an attempt to break the cycle.
I have never had to resort to this but it may be preferable to some people who have been threatened with having their dog taken away.
If you have more than one dog that barks you should know that you only have to train one dog to stop barking.
You need to work out which dog is the dominant one and starts the barking.
If you can retrain this dog the other dog won't have the inclination to start barking without his superior mate.
