- Blu-Ray discs also have the capability to contain high-definition audio. Although traditional DVDs can hold decent surround sound (as many as 5 channels), Blu-Ray discs can hold 8 channels of surround sound and can transmit in multiple formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. If you see just Dolby certification or 5.1 surround on the back of the box, then the sound quality is the same as a regular DVD, and you may not want to invest the extra money in the Blu-Ray disc.

And since Blu-Ray DVDs have a much higher storage capacity than standard DVDs, they can hold many more special features than normal, such as multiple audio and picture-in-picture commentary tracks.
