How to Get Former WWII Military Records
- 1). Gather as much information as you can about the person whose records you are seeking. There are many different archives, so detailed information will give you more databases to search.
- 2). Begin your search with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) website. They have many databases that can be accessed. Due to the amount of information available, however, it is impossible to put it all online.
- 3). Visit either the National Archives in Washington, D.C., or one of the regional facilities around the nation and gather the information in person.
- 4). Contact the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) for the personnel, medical and health records of U.S. veterans. You must submit a written request to the NPRC for someone's World War II records.
- 5). Fill out a Standard Form 180, which can be obtained on the NPRC website, to request a World War II veteran's personnel records.
- 6). Send the Form 180 to the appropriate location for your specific record request. A list of locations for mailing the form is on the document.
