How to Use a Higher Watt Compact Fluorescent in a Light

    • 1). Check the watt limit on the lamp and ensure it is a standard screw-in fixture.

    • 2). Acquire a higher watt CFL for use in the lamp. Remember that CFLs only use about 25 percent of the wattage for the same light as an incandescent bulb, so for the equivalent of a 100 watt incandescent, you will only need a 25 watt CFL. Do not exceed the watt limit on the lamp.

    • 3). Screw in the new, higher watt CFL just as you would a regular incandescent bulb.
