Acrylic

Definition: Acrylic is a synthetic man-made fiber which was created to mimic wool and it does bear some resemblance to it in softness.

Some brand names for acrylic are Acrilan, Orlan, and Creslon. The fiber has a soft, smooth feel which is very similar to wool, and is lightweight. It is often used to create plush velvets, and dyes beautifully.

Acrylic Features:

  • Resilient and retains shape
  • Quick drying


  • Resistant to water damage, sunlight and does not fade
  • Resistant to mold, mildew and insects
  • Flammable

Acrylics are often used to make outdoor fabrics because they are impervious to sun and water damage. They also have good abrasion resistance, and dirt resistance. It is easy to clean them.
