How to Clean Cat Urine Out of a Mattress
- 1). Locate the entire spread of the cat urine on the mattress with a black light. To do this, turn off all of the regular lights in the room and close your blinds or curtains to block out sunlight. Turn on the black light, and the cat urine will glow green on the mattress.
- 2). Sprinkle baking soda over the areas that are soaked in urine, if the urine is still wet. The baking soda will draw the wet urine out of the mattress. Once the baking soda turns yellow, scoop it off with a paper towel and dispose of it. Reapply new baking soda and dispose of the old until it stops turning yellow.
- 3). Mix 2 cups of warm water with 1 cup of white distilled vinegar and rub the mixture into the mattress with a paper towel. The vinegar will help to remove the odor that the urine has left behind by neutralizing it. Allow the vinegar and water mixture to dry on the mattress.
- 4). Dip a paper towel into warm water and rub it over the dried spots where you applied the vinegar, to rinse it away along with any traces of leftover urine. Allow the water to dry, and the stain and odor should be gone.
