Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson - Dance Like There"s No Tomorrow (Remixes)
About.com Rating
Let's begin with just how excited most of us in the dance community are that Paula Abdul is back recording music... I think this song fits her perfectly; it's pure, innocent, fun pop/dance, and she sounds great, even vocoded, and it's great to actually see her dancing again. I knew the minute I heard this track that remixes HAD to follow, and finally they have arrived.
Let me begin with Mr. Oakenfold.
I must admit, I've never really been a huge fan of Oakenfold, his mixes have always been really hit or miss with me. Usually a miss. But I must admit, this is most likely my favorite remix he's ever done. His mix for "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow" is funky, fun, fresh, somewhat "electro" but almost like an old-school electro, and downright happy. You cannot help but get up and dance to this remix. I couldn't help but get up and dance to the original version, and now with this amazing mix from Oakenfold, I am literally blown away. And I've honestly never been able to say that about any Paul Oakenfold mix. His mix most definitely gets five out of five stars from me.
Now, moving on to the Soul Seekerz who seem to be remixing just about everyone these days. Their remix for Rihanna's "Breakin' Dishes" was simply funky & fun, their current hit remix for Tamia's "Me" is absolutely beautiful. And now they've tackled Paula's comeback! I must admit, I feel that most everything Soul Seekerz do pretty much sounds the same… that's why I was so happy that they took a slighty different route for their Tamia mix, but for the Paula track their "traditional sound" just doesn't really work for me.
Maybe it's because I'm so in love with Oakenfold's amazing remix, but I'm somewhat disappointed with their club mix. Their "Dirty Dub" is a little more enjoyable with some vocal snippets and some darker synths. I prefer it over their vocal mix. I'll give their vocal mix 2 out of 5 stars, and their dub 3.5 out of 5.
Also included on the promo are the original version and an Oakenfold Instrumental for those who want to get "creative".
Overall, a great track for a comeback that I feel is long overdue. The original and Oakenfold mixes are top notch. Thank you Randy Jackson for making this happen!
