Toilet Lever Repair

    • 1). Remove the toilet tank lid and set it aside. Be careful when handling the lid to prevent breaks, chips and cracks.

    • 2). Tighten the plastic support nut using your fingers or a wrench if the lever is loose. The support nut is located on the inside of the tank, attached to the lever, and holds the lever in place when pushed.

    • 3). Ensure the chain connecting the float ball to the rubber seal is not wrapped around the arm connecting the lever to the ball. A tangled or wrapped chain will prevent the seal from preventing the water from escaping the tank, causing the toilet to continually run.

    • 4). Replace the lever if it is broken or cracked. To replace the lever, turn off the water supply to the toilet by turning the water shutoff valve handle located on the wall behind the toilet. Flush the toilet and loosen and remove the support nut attached to the lever. Unclip the chain connecting the float ball to the rubber stopper and slide the lever and arm out of the hole occupied by the lever apparatus. Insert the new arm and lever through the lever hole and into the tank. Tighten the new support nut to hold the lever in place and reattach the clip to the float ball. Replace the toilet lid and turn on the water supply.
