The first two IPL playoff matches (Qualifier 1 and Eliminator), scheduled for May 21 and May 22 shall not be played at Chennai. It will now be held at Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. Delhi will host both the games.

This decision was taken by the IPL authorities owing to the political issues created by the Tamil Nadu government with their objection to the Sri Lankan players being allowed to play in the southern metropolitan city.

BCCI president, N Srinivasan & IPL chairman, Rajeev Shukla declared the decision of shifting the IPL playoffs to the Kotla stadium, Delhi after the TN government stuck to its stand of not letting the Sri Lankan players to play in the city in the wake of the strong anti-Sinhalese feelings prevailing in the state.

Before taking this final decision, the IPL governing council had met on April 22 in Chennai and tried to sort out the issue with the Tamil Nadu government. The efforts failed, prompting the authorities to shift the venue of the IPL playoffs.

Though Bangalore and Pune were also taken into consideration for the matches, the IPL authorities opted for Delhi as the final venue for the matches without any change in the scheduled dates.
