How to Build Recycling Storage

    • 1). Collect and clean up several large bins to hold recyclables. Old trash cans and large bins or containers can easily be converted into storage for recycling. Any sturdy container can be transformed into recycling storage as long as it is sturdy enough to be dropped by recycling collectors on a weekly basis and can hold a sufficient amount of materials.

    • 2). Write the word "Recycle" in large, bold letters on the piece of poster board. If you have multiple containers for different recyclables such as paper or plastic, emphasize its contents on the poster board. Use the largest storage containers for the largest amount of recyclable materials that your household produces.

    • 3). Tape the poster board to the container where recycling collectors will clearly see the label. Use different colors for each label, such as blue for plastic and orange for glass. Clearly marked poster board labels will help to prevent you from accidentally mixing recyclable items.
