Ear Medication for a Cat
- A cat may need ear medication if he has excessive fur at the outer ear flap. A cat's inner ear should be a healthy pink color and a small amount of black discharge is normal. Excessive black wax is often a result of ear mites in most cats.

- Washington State advises using veterinarian-recommended products sparingly as excessive cleaning can be damaging to a cat's ears. Many solutions contain chemicals with drying agents.
- A sedated examination is sometimes recommended by a veterinarian if a cat will not allow cleaning or if there is foreign material inside the cat's ear. During this procedure, the veterinarian will collect samples from the ear.
